Adopt-A-Family Project

This is the 4th year that the club voted & motion passed to participate in the Adopt-A-Family Project for Christmas.  This project is coordinated by the Steele County Human Services.  It gives the less fortunate the chance at a most joyous holiday.

The Club donated a dollar amount of $300 to buy clothes, toys and a food card for a family of 3.  This year our family consisted of a 29 year old mother and 2 daughter’s ages 10 and 3.
Julie Buskovick & Colleen Lund did the shopping for this project.

Below are the purchases that were made:
Mother – Bath & Body Works Candles, Body Lotion & Shower Gel;
2 pair of jeans, sweatshirt and shirt.
10 year old girl – Vest, 2 shirts, 2 pair of jeans, 2 DVD’s, Jewelry/Beading Kit and Twilight Game.
3 year old girl – Baby Doll, UNO Preschool Game, Disney Story Time Book, Leggings, 4 shirts, Skirt, 2 pair of jeans.
A $65 Food Gift Card was also purchased from Cash Wise ($40 from the club and $25 donation from Mark & Brenda Hall)
The gifts were wrapped and delivered to Steele County Human Services.  From there they will be delivered to our family.
Once again, THANK-YOU ALL for voting in this very worthwhile project.
Have A MOST WONDERFUL Christmas & an AWESOME New Year!!!

BOWLING GREEN HERE WE COME!

Sept 1, 2009
We left Owatonna at 8 a.m.  George’s, Hoffman’s, Johnson’s, Bernie, Greene’s, and Rich and Glenis.  We met Jim Carlson at Pure Pleasure.  Five other Corvette’s met there also.  They came from Hayfield.  A beautiful day!  57 degrees when we left Owatonna.  We picked up another Corvette in LaCrosse.  Just out of La Crosse Bill and Mary got pulled over by the Wisconsin Highway Patrol.  Oh oh!  80 in a 55… Oh my! L  Meet ya in Tomah!  No ticket, yeah!  Good lunch and off to Beloit, WI Budweiser Chevrolet.  Snack time:  Weiner, pop, water.  This is where we met up with Wisconsin people.  Rest stop for ½ hour and on to Bloomington, Ill for the night.  Cars started leaving the lot at 3:30 and it took 20 minutes for all to leave.  We arrived in Beloit with no problem except that Jim C got lost but he found his way and joined us for a Mexican supper.         Marilyn

Wednesday, Sept 2nd
We left Beloit at about 8:00.  It was about 5 miles and hit stop and go and road construction.  There we lost the George’s.  They took the “short cut” through Indiana!  All was well… they caught up in Marion.  At this point we were told no one is to pass the lead car, oh my!  I think we made people mad with 500 plus cars going anywhere from 45 to 70 mph.  The drive was nice, good weather, only about 3 minutes of rain.  Two cars ahead of us didn’t even put their tops up. We made it!  First the loop in front of the birth place of all our cars, then around the museum.  Then it was time to go in and pick up our $50.00 name tags.  Boy, are they nice!!  Off to dinner and to find our hotel.  They told Tim at the museum they expect to have 6000 cars tomorrow!          Karen

Thursday, Sept 3rd
In everyone’s life a little rain must fall… and it did that Thursday morning. But rain before 7 stops before 11! To start the day – a great breakfast at Waffle House #859, great food, fantastic service and a few of us received a free bottle of Picante Sauce.  Off we went for a private tour of a Tobacco field given to us by Carrol Pearson, a gentleman we met at the Waffle House. Then, off to the NCM.  We toured the museum and I think everyone dusted off their credit cards at the gift shop. Our next venture took us to a local winery where we toured the facility.  Karen bought a few bottles to take home.  We found a great country road to take us back to our hotel.  Lots of curves and hills.  To finish the day we ate at “Earl G. Dumplin’s”.  Delicious food!  Huge portions!  Our award goes to Jim George – for consuming the largest amount of pop – without drinking it!          Mary

Friday, Sept 4th
We went to the plant tour.  It was great.  Very interesting to see how the cars are put together and all the different types of Vettes.  Jim G, Paul, Bill and Rich went golfing.  The rest went out for lunch to Tony’s Steak House.  Very good food.  Then, Patti, Jim C, Mary and Marilyn went to the Harley shop and back to the motel for a relaxing day.  Tim and Karen went off for a day of sight seeing.  They bought doilies and went back to the museum for a bit.  Allan and Pam went to see if they could get lost on the back roads.  They had a blast seeing all kinds of things like the Amish harvesting sorghum.  They stopped at an Amish stand and bought some goodies.    The boys did good golfing.  Jim and Rich shot a 82 and Bill and Paul, 90.  The golfers said it was a beautiful day.  We all went out for supper at WaaBha Bar and Grill.  No one got lost today or any mishaps.  The food was good.  The rest of the night we enjoyed visiting and shared some of Karen’s wine.  Bernie left us at 5:20 a.m. to head home for a wedding.  He’ll be missed.                     Pam

Saturday, Sept 5th
We went to Birdie’s Kitchen in Scottsville for breakfast.  Yum!  Afterward, Al led us on a nice tour of the countryside.  Beautiful scenery, neatly kept homes and acreages, lots of churches and very nice and friendly people everywhere we’ve been on the trip.  There are lots of trees!  Horses, cattle, and some bean, corn and tobacco fields.  The next few hours were spent back at the museum.  Jim Carlson almost had to fight someone for a parking spot!  We got to see the unveiling of the “Transformer” Vette.  Have you seen the movie?  So many fun cars and people!  Bill added a little more excitement by trying to open the door of the fancy patrol car that was parked there… which of course set off the car alarm.  He looks so innocent!  Then on to the “Beatles” concert!!  Paul, Ringo, John and George were fabulous as always.  The concert was outdoors and it was a beautiful evening.  Earl G. Dumplin’s for dinner once again!  We had the same waitress, “Binney” and she was nice enough to give Jim a Styrofoam cup with a lid for his pop this time.  J  Again the food was amazing, portions were huge and prices were small.  I think we’ll all be counting calories for a while after this trip.  We did have to chuckle with the gal that walked outside with a persistent tail of toilet paper stuck to her shoe.  She was a good sport about it.  The end of a fun trip.  Time to pack up and head home.  Can’t wait for the next “event”!

Corvette caravans to roll in for 15th anniversary,
local procession will begin at ag center at 6 p.m. today

ROBYN L. MINOR, The Daily News, rminor@bgdailynews.com/783-3249
Published: September 1, 2009

Corvettes have started rolling into town already, and by Friday about 5,100 will have arrived for the 15th anniversary of the National Corvette Museum. About 4,100 Corvettes have been registered for the four-day event and another 1,000 are expected to do so on-site.

“Some of those people in the caravan may be going on to Nashville for the weekend, or after driving all week they may have to turn around and head back home for work,” said Katie Frassinelli, marketing director for the museum. Those who already live in southcentral Kentucky but wish to have their own caravan experience can do so tonight, Frassinelli said. “We have at least 17 people at the museum with Corvettes; there is a Corvette club in town and many people who work at the plant drive Corvettes, so I think we will have a pretty good crowd,” she said.

Anyone wishing to participate in the caravan should meet at 6 p.m. at Western Kentucky University’s L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center off Elrod Road. From there, the group will travel on Natcher Parkway to Interstate 65 and to the museum. It’s about a 12-mile trip, not nearly the thousands of miles that some people will be traveling. Afterward, the museum’s cafe will be open for dinner.

Museum Director Wendell Strode is looking forward to the anniversary and fourth caravan for the museum. Strode was in the audience when the museum opened – he formerly worked as a banker and was a member of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce. At the time, the project had numerous skeptics, who continued to be skeptical for several years. “I think we started turning that corner around 1996, and it was pretty well gone when the museum (in 2004) paid back the city and the county the money that was loaned to it to start the project,” Strode said. “We turned the corner then and people knew we were going to be around for a while.”

Now the museum contributes about $25 million annually to the area’s economy. “That number will be up this year because of the anniversary,” Strode said.

Frassinelli said the weekend holds a little something for everyone, including seminars at both the museum and Sloan Convention Center. Attendees must have event registration to attend the seminars; however, anyone can pay just the museum’s general admission to catch a glimpse of some of the one-of-a-kind concept cars that will be on display. There will be a women’s oasis at the nearby FOP lodge with various activities.

The cars on display will include a 1961 Mako Shark Concept, 1965 Manta Ray Concept, 1973 Aerovette Concept and 1959 Stingray Racer. They are on loan from the General Motors Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, Mich. The display opened today and will be in the museum’s new exhibit hall until Sept. 9. Frassinelli said there is a rumor that the Stingray Concept car that was in “Transformers” may show up. “Most folks wouldn’t get to see these in their lifetime,” Strode said of the display.

At 3:30 p.m. Friday, there will be a ribbon cutting for the official grand reopening to celebrate the anniversary, along with the completion of the museum’s $10 million expansion and renovation. Frassinelli said even after the expansion, there will be plenty of parking for participants. The lot at the General Motors Bowling Green Assembly Plant and others nearby will be used. “We will have three shuttles running continuously,” Frassinelli said.

— For more information about the anniversary or a schedule of events, go to corvettemuseum.org. To follow caravans and check on their progress, go to corvettecaravan.com. The cost of the event is $10 for members for four days and $50 for non-members, but that includes a one-year membership.

Ankeny, IA

A GREAT CRUISE, CAR SHOW, FRIENDSHIP, & FOOD!
The temperature however was NOT great.

Craig Haw, Bill and Mary Greene, Jim and Marilyn Squires, Jim Carlson and friend Leo, headed to Ankeny Iowa in some pretty windy conditions. The tops didn't come down until Ames, Iowa.
I have to say this was the BEST car show I have attended and well worth the drive to see.

After taking our time and checking out all the cars we headed for home.
The tops stayed up with the temperature gauge reading 97 with A/C on as we made our way to
"The Olde Main Brewing Company", in Ames, Iowa.
Craig and I checked out the locally brewed beers and found one we liked, Bill had their home brewed Root beer, which he said was good. And the food was very good.

After filling your tummy's it was time to get back on the road, with a quick stop at Diamond Jo's.
No big winners tonight in our group, oh well, maybe next time!

Ask Jim about the Smart Car! ;o)

July 25 Blue Angels Air Show
(go to Photo Album to see the pictures)
Sioux Falls, SD

OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY, it was on Sat. July 25th, when 3 Hiawathaland Corvettes cruised to the air show in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Jim and Marilyn Squires, Keith and Jeannie Kearney and Bill and Mary Greene, headed out at 7 A.M. to meet up with Doc and Pam Walker in Sioux Falls.  Doc and Pam welcomed us with fresh coffee and rolls, before heading to the air show. Also before heading to the airshow, Jeannie gave us a short piano recital. (A woman of many talents.)

No worry about leaving our cars parked in a crowded parking lot, Doc and Pam chauffeured us to the Air show and arranged VIP passes, which allowed us to catch the VIP bus to the gate of the air show. What a worry free treat.

Having Doc share his knowledge on the various aircraft added to the enjoyment of the day. However, of course the highlight of the Air Show was the performance by the “Blue Angels”!!! One word: FANTASTIC!  “The Blue Angels demonstrated graceful aerobatic maneuvers of the 4-plane Diamond Formation, in concert with the fast-paced, high performance maneuvers of two Solo Pilots.” It was FANTASTIC.

To cap off the day, Doc and Pam had a great restaurant in mind for dinner before we headed for home; “bracco world café and island bar”. The beers were cold and the specialty drink a pomegranate blueberry tea something, Jeannie said was just what she needed. The menu covered everything from Thai, Mexican, American and paradise salad.

If you are ever in Sioux Falls, make sure you check this place out.  www.BraccoRestaurant.com

Thanks for a great Saturday Doc and Pam!!!!

July 17 Relay for Life what
(go to Photo Album to see the pictures)
Owatonna, MN

What a wonderful turnout we had for "Marilyn's Breast Friends"
and the rally as a whole.  A big "Thank-you" to those of  you who raised
money for the Relay for Life, and took time to come out and walk.
I really appreciate it and so does ACS.

The Owatonna "Relay for Life" raised over $95,000.00,
the Silent Auction about $5000.00.
In these times that is a great amount.

July 11 Cruise to Winona
(go to Photo Album to see the pictures)
Winona, MN

Saturday was a beautiful day for anything!  We couldn’t go wrong with the perfect temperature and low humidity.  A pretty parade of ten Corvettes left the Federated parking lot at about 2:20 in the afternoon.  After quick stops in Zumbrota, and Wabasha we cruised over the river and continued down hwy 35 to Winona – with an interesting little drive through Buffalo City .  There were a lot of patrol officers out enjoying the weather that day too.  I think we had our own escort service a few times.  It’s a good thing that Corvette drivers are always very conscientious at obeying traffic laws.  J (phew!)

Everyone was hungry by the time we got to dinner at Jefferson ’s Pub and Grill at about 5:45.  It’s a fun place that we assume was a railroad depot in the past.  After dinner we took quick drive up to the Garvin Heights Overlook.  The view of Winona was amazing.  The lovely weather (although it did get chilly on the way home!), about 200 miles of interesting roads,  socializing with fabulous Corvette friends, and of course the ice cream on the way home made for a great Saturday.  Thanks for joining us!

June 26 Stewies's Cruise in at Strikers
(go to Photo Album to see the pictures)
Stewartville, MN

One again we had a beautiful evening for the cruise to Stewartville.

Al and Pam lead the way thru some great country roads. Jim and Lez, Dave LaCanne, Chuck and Joanie, Bob Lee, Patti and Paul, Jim and Marilyn, Mark and Brenda and Bill and Mary, enjoyed this evening’s run.

One of my favorite parts about our corvette cruises, are all those great scenic country roads that I have never been on before.

Meeting us at Strikers was Tim and Sam.  Tim even got us perfect parking spots!!!

The next favorite part about our club is the people and the great visiting we do, whether catching up on each others health, what new projects we are involved in or the latest child’s or  grandchild’s escapades. The visiting is always interesting!!!

And then of course the food has to be a favorite part of our cruising. After checking out the cars at the cruise in, including a VERY unique one piece at a time car, (see photo’s) we were off to “The Three 31 Bar and Grill”, in Rochester for dinner. We have stopped at this bar and grill in the past and the food is always good.  After a libation and filling our tummies, we were off for a cruise home. The temps had dropped down in to the 70’s and the cruis’n was easy!!!

Thanks again to Pam and Al for some great country roads!!

June 19 Medford Parade and Hoffman Party
(go to Photo Album to see the pictures)
Medford, MN

The Medford Parade was a success with no rain hampering the event. The kids and adults that lined the parade route enjoyed the candy and the Mickey Mouse hand waves. It was a good thing that it was cloudy so that the chrome on one red Corvette didn't blind the crowd. Ten cars were in the parade this year: Al & Pam D, Bob L, Bernie L & his grandson, Doris T & Ron F, Bill & Mary G, Paul and Patti H, Jim & Lez C, Marilyn & Jim G, Don & Julie B, and Jim & Marilyn S.

Again this year, a HUGE thank you goes out to our banner carriers, Erin and Libby.

After the parade we all enjoyed a bonfire cookout at Patti and Paul's. Thanks for hosting again!!! Larry and Cathy G stopped by to visit. Mark H also stopped by with his full head of hair.

June 5th - 6th - 7th Corvettes For A Cause
(go to Photo Album to see the pictures)
Hutchinson, MN

The George's-Greene's-Hoffman's-Deml's and Christianson's loaded up the Vettes and headed for Hutch on a beautiful Friday morning. The sun was shining and most of us had our tops down. It was such a sunny morning for a drive.  Dana and Sylvia had a bit of a problem with their car so they pulled into Harry Browns (lifter problems). They called their own mechanic and he fixed the car for them so soon they were on the road again and met us in Hutch! Bill and Mary took us on a scenic drive through small towns and farmlands, good roads and Chevy Dealerships. After a small glitch in the GPS we were on the right track to Hutch.

The guys (Jim-Bill-Paul) played golf at Crow River Country Club while the girls had manicures and pedicures at "MY INSPIRATION SALON AND SPA" (check out the artwork on the toes!) Al and Keith went for hotdogs at Valley Auto Sales and envied a C1 totally rebuilt with an LS7 in it...HOT CAR!  Keith went shopping and bought a glock but didn’t disclose until Sunday evening (so was it really shopping?!?!!)

Patty, Marilyn, Al and Pam tried their luck at the "Blind Faith Autocross". WHAT A BLAST!!!! I think I scared the bajeebers out of Patty.  We (almost!) hit the light pole, knocked over a few cones...but we did good!!! Pam is a great navigator (or is Al just a good listener?) They did a fantastic job. Any way it was a fun event enjoyed by all who participated.

We all gathered back at the hotel for Happy Hour and a "Western Welcome". Most of us got duded up for the event with flashy belt buckles, cowboy boots and Wranglers!  Here comes Wrangler, one tough customer! Check out the photos!! Food and conversation were good and we had some great laughs, Country music to dance and listen to (love that Patsy Cline!)

On Saturday we woke up to more cold rainy weather...but that didn't stop this lot of Corvette Enthusiasts...NOOOOOO! We all jumped in our cars and ran the "HIDDEN TIME RALLY". What fun that was – we left 3 minutes apart with instructions in hand, to places and roads we had never been on before, following directions and looking for clues..."Sign, what Sign?" And who missed that "BIG BALL OF TWINE" in the gazebo???
Bell, Ball, yeah you vettcha! Ask for more details.
Al Deml had his "RENCHIN" on (speed) Ha Ha.  They tried to pass the Kearneys to take
1st Place in the rally!

Dart Run = Big Fun on a cold rainy day.. Syl got the lowest score of 3 - Good Job Syl!
Some of us needed to get our "tips straightened".  When that was done of course we had to have a Dairy Queen. Then some went to the car show at the fairgrounds and some went back to the hotel for a much needed nap. I think the weather just made everyone tired.

Dinner and Awards were Saturday evening...A nice social gathering of Corvette enthusiasts (complete with nuts!)

---  Awards were given (Hiawathaland swept one event!!)  ---
Hidden Time Rally----1st place---AL & PAM DEML
They got the speed-the answers and the mileage all correct.
2nd place--BILL & MARY GREENE
They got the Speed and mileage correct.
3rd place---JIM AND MARILYN GEORGE
They got the mileage and answers correct.

Best of all Jim and Bill won the trophy for Last years golf tourney
(what a surprise to all of us...  Congrats to all!)

To celebrate our good luck we continued enjoying the company we were with and had some fun together. Sunday, the guys were supposed to be in a Golf Tourney. As you can guess - it was cold windy and sprinkling so we all headed on home.

Jeannie our infamous photographer was with us the entire time and documented the good times had by all.  For those who attended enjoy the memories, if you missed it hopefully the pictures will encourage you to join us for next year's Cruise for the Cause!
...IT WAS GREAT FUN!!!

May 25 Memorial Day Parade & Picnic
(go to Photo Album to see the pictures)

WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!!!

A big Thank you to the club members that drove in the Memorial Day Parade. This has become a tradition for our club and I am sure the parade organizers look forward to us helping out each year!! THANK YOU!!!!!

It has also become a tradition to gather for a picnic at the Greene’s after the parade.  This was the 6th year that we have enjoyed prefect weather, awesome food and GREAT friendship.  Bill once again was the “MASTER of the Grill”. The variety of salads, potatoes and desserts made for a great meal.  Thank you to everyone for bringing food to share.

Donny B picked the purple fork and for that was rewarded with a 5 pound Hershey bar (priceless Donny's picture is in the photo album!)
Julie assured me that she and Donny would handle the task of enjoying every bite of it.

After enjoying the meal, and a quick pick up of the yard (Thank you to everyone for helping with that chore) it was off for a cruise. After a little confusion on which way the lead car went, we all met up and off we went. What a beautiful site to see 12 Vettes cruising together.

If the site of 12 Vettes didn’t draw attention, then seeing BIG WHITE HANDs waving
certainly did!  Right Mary (and Marilyn, and Keith, and !!!!!)
and Julie (oh wait, that was a waving puppy!!)

After cruising the beautiful county side (Bill and I had no idea where we were), we stopped in Faribault for what else, but ICE CREAM!!!!!
What a perfect way to end a FANTASTIC day!!!!

Memorial day is always a favorite day for Bill and I, Thanks to all our good friends for making the day special. Looking forward to 2010!!!!

- Mary and Bill Greene

Hide Out Supper Club, Lexington, MN

WOW!  What a way to kick off the season!
Curious enthusiasts stopped to check us out at MGM before we left
to wish us well (maybe a few new members in the works?)

We had 10 cars go, it was a blast. Sounds like everyone had a great time. The food was great. We had a great time on the drive too. Allan and Pam would like to do it again sometime if anyone is interested, and are looking forward to the other drives this summer. Thanks for the great time and day!

April 18 Young Life Cake Auction
(go to Photo Album to see the pictures)

Saturday April 18th was the 31st Annual Young Life Cake Auction held at the Owatonna High School Gym.

In February the club voted and passed that we would donate $200 in merchandise including the cake for the Young Life Cake Auction.  Julie Buskovick headed this event.

Our Auction number was ‘68’ (moved up 10 spots from last year) and our donation consisted of 1/10 scale C6R Remote Control Racing Corvette, 2 Stainless Steel Travel Mugs with the Corvette Logo, Corvette Wireless Mouse and Sweatshirt, T-Shirt & Hat with the Hiawathaland Logo.  Roxy Lee at Cash Wise made the ½ sheet marble cake with butter cream frosting.  The cake was decorated with the Hiawathaland logo.

Our donation brought in a bid of $275 and went to Dr. Mulet …Congratulations to Dr. Mulet!!!

As of Sunday April 19th, the preliminary results of the Auction showed that approximately $60,000 was raised.

This auction is one of Young Life’s most important fundraising events of the year.  There are no real organizations in Owatonna that support Young Life’s staff, camp trips, etc.  The money that is raised goes towards its operating costs and programs for the Youth of Owatonna.

For those of you not familiar with Young Life, this is a ‘club’ for youth looking to find themselves.  It gives them a spiritual background but is not associated with any church (non-denominational).  The club has volunteer mentors that give their time to these kids.  This is a very positive thing for the Youth of Owatonna.

Thank-you again this year for voting in this event…it is a much worthwhile program for the Youth of Owatonna!!!

- Julie and Don Buskovick

Sunday morning headed over to Whiskey River Emporium in St. Peter, MN for "Sunday morning Brunch". We had 4 Vettes
(George's, Greene's,  Buskovick's, and Squire's) plus
a Nissan (Kearney's) and an Acura (Fuller's.)
The race was on w/non-vettes having slightly better
clearance for road kill!

We are a lively bunch of corvette enthusiast!
and were rewarded with sunshine and blue skies for the most part.
Jim and Marilyn Squires took us on a nice ride around the partially frozen lakes with some good twists and turns. We made it to the restaurant right on time <Good job Jim!!> Brunch was wonderful!!

Made to order Omelets, make your own waffles, and Ultimate Bloody Marys! There were some lively conversations going on and
some new summer plans for the club are in the works.

January 18 Bowlmania

Sunday January 18 was the day for our annual ‘Bowlmania’! Several of our members gathered at Southpark Lanes & Lounge for bowling and socializing.

Julie had a surprise for all…everyone needed to pay attention to what they were doing and heard (bowling wise that is) as she made up a ‘Bowling Trivia’ quiz for all to take.  The winner of the trivia quiz was awarded  ‘Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader’ DVD game.  Keith Kearney was the winner with the most correct answers (29 correct out of 34). Way to go Keith!

After bowling, we went next door to Plaza Moreno for supper.  The food & service were great!!!  We ended a great day with cake to celebrate Jeannie’s graduation from her Master’s program. Nice going Jeannie!

A great time was had by all!  See ya’ll next year for another ‘Bowlmania’!!!  The photo’s have now been posted so please check out the photo page.

Saturday October 25th was a gorgeously wonderful fall afternoon for a drive ‘n dine cruise.11 cars gathered for the run…a surprising turnout for one of the last runs of the season!!!Jim & Marilyn Squires planned a beautiful run that took us on some nice winding roads. We had one pit-stop in Pine Island before continuing on to our destination in Miesville where we socialized and ate supper at Wiederholdt’s Supper Club. Highly recommend this establishment for dining…very accommodating and excellent food. Thanks Jim & Marilyn Squires for nicely planned run!!!

The fall run to Wisconsin on Saturday, October 11th
, was a success! The weather cooperated…. even a small shower on the way home that helped to wash off some of the bugs and other accumulated “grime”. Hoffman’s probably looked kind of silly traveling with the top down through the shower but the light rain just went over the top and no one got wet!

Craig and Holly Haw lead the way. Patti & Paul Hoffman, Keith and Jeannie Kearney, and Jim and Marilyn Squires followed along for the tour. There were lots of beautiful sights around curves and bluffs as the trees had quite a bit of color. I’m sure Jeannie had to rest her camera finger that night as she took about 900 pictures along the way! Besides the pretty trees, we saw LOTS of pretty Corvettes and motorcycles as well!! And, you can’t just drive by all of those apple orchards without a stop at at least one.

As always, it’s fun to visit over lunch and breaks along the way. It’s great getting to know more Corvette friends!

Sept. 14th, 2008 St. Croix Cruise!
Cool weather, clouds, and rain, oh my!

A great day for a cruise on the St Croix River??? As a matter of fact, it was! It takes more than a few minor inconveniences like that to dampen the spirits of these Corvette enthusiasts! Six pretty cars left Owatonna at about 11:00 Sunday morning headed to Stillwater for the “Jazz Me on the Water” cruise. The George’s were our hosts. Dana and Sylvia, Bill & Mary, Patti & Paul, Keith & Jeannie, and Jim & Marilyn Squires were the group for the day. We took a pretty direct route to Stillwater. There we had a nice 2 hour river boat cruise with a fabulous meal and entertainment. The musicians on the boat were VERY talented and did some special songs for Sylvia and Dana’s 34th wedding anniversary (along with the Georges’ 34th and the Squires’ 36th!) Bill kept everyone up to date on the Vikings scores and Jeannie was photographer for the day. Can’t wait to see the pictures Jeannie! Lots of laughs later it was time for the drive home. Traffic in Stillwater was a little crazy but after we got out of town we had a nice back roads trip home. Thanks Jim & Marilyn!

August 29th, was a beautiful night for a cruise to Albert Lea.

Hoffman’s, Greene’s, George’s, Buskovick’s and NEW MEMBERS , Jim and Marilyn Squires, (Yes that is right we have another Jim and Marilyn in the club) cruised over to the Moose Lodge in Albert Lea.

Paul and Patti led the way, a very scenic and fun cruise. At the Lodge, we met up with Jim and Lez, Bob Lee, Dana and Sylvia , Keith and Jeannie. The food was great…..and of course, the best part of the evening was the visiting.

Thanks Jim and Lez for setting this up. We will put it on the calendar to do it again next year.

Another GREAT “VETTECATION” has come and gone. This years cruise took us around Lake Superior on the Canada side and down to Mackinaw city for “Corvettes at the Crossroads.

Our “vettecationers” included myself and Bill, Patti and Paul, Bernie, Dave, and Tim and Karen (Who by the way celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary).

August 19th, we headed out with Bernie leading the way to Thunder Bay, Canada. It was a little chilly that morning, so we kept our tops up, only the brave Hoffman’s cruised topless. Once we reached the north shore, the weather warmed and the tops came down as we cruised through Duluth and into Canada.

What a beautiful lake drive, around every bend was another breath-taking scene.

August 20th, morning was relax as you wanted. Bill and Paul checked out the golf course, Bernie and Dave found a car wash, Tim and Karen enjoyed driving around Thunder Bay, while Patti and I slept in and then enjoy a leisurely morning of coffee and visiting.

In the afternoon we all checked out Kakabeka Falls. The Falls plunges 131 feet over sheer cliffs and have some of the oldest fossils in the world. After taking in the sights, it was time to hit the road to Marathon, Canada, our next overnight stop. After a good nights rest it was up and on the road for our next leg of the journey to Mackinaw City.

August 22, was a total relaxing day. Karen, Patti and I visited a spa, while Bernie and Dave washed their cars, Tim checked out some of the shops and Paul and Bill were off for another round of golf. We all got back to the motel for a much-needed afternoon nap before a fun evening boat cruise around Lake Huron. Let’s just say, when the DJ played YMCA, well the boat started rock’n and didn’t stop until the cruise was over.

The Mackinaw Crossroads Rally was a FULL day of activities. The Poker Walk was held rain or shine and rain it did. But onward we forged thru the rains, and we were well rewarded for our efforts. Bernie held the winning hand with a Royal Flush, Paul and I also won prices for our hands.

Besides the luck with the poker hands, Bernie, Dave, Paul and I also won “door prizes.”

The highlight of the Rally was the Vette’s crossing the 5 mile bridge. Over 200 Vettes crossed the bridge one after another. What a beautiful sight!!!

Sunday, found Bernie and Dave packing for the cruise home, Paul, Patti, Tim, Karen, Bill and I decided to take in the sites on Mackinac Island. As Bill would say, to smell fudge and horse s---. But oh so much more!!! The grand hotel was awesome to see, the carriage ride around the island very informative. After having lunch on the Island and shopping, it was time to head back to the main land.

When we got back, Tim and Karen decided to head down the road, as it ended up they drove straight home arriving around 3 AM Monday morning.

Patti, Paul, Bill and I took off Monday morning and we took our time coming home.

We all hated to end the fantastic VETTECATION!!!

Once again, looking forward to next year’s trip. Hope more can join us for the fun on the 2009 Caravan to Bowling Green!!!!!

ELLENDALE PARADE

The Ellendale parade was Saturday July 19th..We had 3 cars attend. Dana and Sylvia Christianson- Bob Lee and Jim and Marilyn George. We had a great time. The streets of Ellendale were lined with parade enthusiasts.
Bob was the only one who remembered to bring candy --but we were not booed out of town.

June 12th, Cruise to Geneva

Saturday June 12th was a sunny (but windy) day for a Corvette cruise!
Don & Julie, Ron & Doris, Keith & Jeannie, Dennis & Colleen, Chuck & Mary and Jim left Taco Johns on a ‘Drive ‘n Dine’ cruise. Don & Julie led the group for an hour cruise and then ended at George’s of Geneva. In Geneva, Jim & Lez caught up with the group. Once again, the food was awesome (BBQ Ribs were great!).After the meal, Steve Dittrich (George’s owner and one of our sponsors) joined us outside to take pictures.

Enjoyable time by all!!!

A few Corvette members managed to get in a couple fun drives in June.

In Minnesota you have to take advantage of any somewhat decent weather that you get!

Tuesday, June 24th. Al & Pam Deml, Paul & Patti H, Bob Lee and Ron Fuller enjoyed a drive and dinner at Club 57 in Waseca. There was quite a big crowd with lots of nice cars! Chuck and Mary Brenner also joined us. The weather was great and Al led us on the Snake trail route back to Owatonna.

Friday, June 27th threatened us with some clouds but we lucked out and had a great round- about drive to Geneva Bar and Grill. Jim & Marilyn George, Al & Pam Deml and Paul & Patti H took on the clouds for that trip. The rain held off and the weather cooperated for a very nice top down cruise. Good food and company but no luck on the pull tabs this time!

June 21st, BACK TO THE 50’s CAR SHOW

We had a fun time going to the Back to the 50's on June 21. We had Al and Pam Deml join us for the ride up and we met Dave La Canne and Bernie with Linda and Connor. They drove the Mustang. There were over 11,000 cars there and it was fun to walk the streets and see the colors, old styles, and interesting modifications made to some of them. The food was great and the weather could not have been more perfect. It was a wonderful, relaxing day.

JUNE 20th Medford Parade.

What a GREAT evening for a parade. This was our 4th year participating in the Medford parade, and the crowds get bigger every year. It is unbelievable how much candy is thrown out to the crowd and the kids, big and little beg for more.

This year, we had 8 members drive in the parade and a “new perspective” member joined us. We hope to see Clayton at our next outing and we hope he will be joining our club. A special thanks to our banner carriers, they did a super job!!!

After the parade Paul and Patti lead us on a scenic drive back to their home, where we enjoyed sloppy joes, snacks and GREAT desserts, sitting around the bonfire.
Thanks Patti and Paul for hosting a fun evening.

Young Life Cake Auction -

Saturday April 12 was the 30th Annual Young Life Cake Auction held this year at the Owatonna High School gym. It was previously voted that we would donate up to $200 in merchandise including the cake. Donny & Julie Buskovick & Ron Fuller were the committee members.

Our Auction number was ‘78’ and our donation consisted of 1/10 Scale C6 Remote Control Racing Corvette, Car Detailing Care Pack, Corvette Jacket, Hooded Sweatshirt, T-shirt, 2 hats and 1/43 Scale C5-R Action 2001 Race Version model (Dale Earnhardt Sr & Jr Race Team). Our donation bought in a bid of $325 and went to a Bob Anderson…Congratulations Bob!!! The goal for Young Life this year was $70,000. The auction raised a bit shy of that at $56,000…that is up $3000 from last year.

This auction is one of Young Life’s most important fundraising events of the year. There are no real organizations in Owatonna that support Young Life’s staff and camp trips. The money raised goes towards its operating costs and programs.

Thank-you for voting in this event…it is a much worthwhile program for the youth of Owatonna!!!
